LET IT SNOW, LET IT SNOW, LET IT SNOW

MAGGIE TOLERATES GROOMING FROM "DADDY"
IT'S MIKEY'S TURN TO BE GROOMED

Snow is falling right now and I love it - except that I worry about people and animals with no warm shelter. I'm also concerned about those who need to travel in it, but it's a good day to put on the kettle, make a pot of soup, bake cookies, wrap gifts, or browse Christmas magazines.
On days like this I'm so thankful to have taken in Maggie and Mikey - a mother and son kitty duo who suffered outside through last winter, despite all my efforts to catch them. Now they're warm and cozy inside and have all the food they can eat. They're getting along well with the other cats and to my relief, they've finally decided it's ok to be petted. I often wonder if they remember how cold they were outside and how scarce food sources were. I'm glad they won't ever have to be hungry or cold again.
Maggie and Mikey seem to look at me through trusting eyes now. I think they know they're safe and that I'll not harm them. Once in awhile Mikey will move away from me if he perceives I'm going to try to brush his long fur, but he no longer hides. Maggie meets me at the door when I go into the cat area to feed and care for all my furry ones. I'm grateful for every little bit of progress.

I've learned the value of Patience especially with those wonderful furry friends that come inside to share outr lives. 3 1/2 years ago someone beat my ferrel but loving Mama Kitty and broke her hips. Carmen helped me trap her & get her to the vets. She healed nicely but the horor of her abuse left her untrusting to the point of absolute panic at the mere presence of the human touch. I'm happy to say after 3 1/2 years she is now the most loving of my two furry babies and comes to me freely. She still shys if ya reach out and startle her but she loves to be brushed, and played with...
Your furry babies are adorable..enjoy every moment with them..

Blessings

Bless your heart. I still have 2 ferals I took in that wont let me come near them, but at least they are warm, dry and have plenty to eat. I have 9 cats all together, that's not including poor tucker who has to stay on the sun porch, but he has a better life than out in the cold. He's got heaters, beds, couches food the whole bit and he even gets to go outside. I also have a few strays that I feed in my garage at night and I put feral houses in there so they can hide and be warm and away from the elements. I rarely see them as they are not socialized. I do what I can though

Oh I know exactly what you mean. I've been worried sick about one of the feral cats who hangs around our house the most. He's a real sweetie and you can tell he wants to be petted - he just purrs and wiggles when you talk to him - loves being talked to. But won't let us get more than 3 feet from him. We've had some rain and low 30s cold and we just worry so much about him. He just sits on the concrete driveway and looks at us and seems a little lethargic sometimes the past few days. We made a little cat house with a blanket in it but so far I don't think he trusts it enough to go in. We also have a blanket on the rocking chair on the front porch. I just feel so sorry for him - don't know where he goes at night but wish he was in a warm spot. I keep thinking we need to do SOMETHING but don't know what except to pray for him.

I forgot to say that I have 3 big dogs who think cats are just large squirrels and so I can't even think about letting him into the house. I'm not sure if we left the garage door slightly open if he would even come in...although a time or two when I've had the car door open, I've come back outside to see him standing with his feet on the edge of the car peering in LOL

I think Maggie and Mikey realize they have been blessed with your love. It is amazing how you can turn a life of fear and neglect into love and comfort. God blesses you-Kady!

I am feeling the same thankfulness this afternoon as I sit and watch the snow fall here in Virginia. We have 20 cats inside right now and most of them were at one point feral or have been born to a feral mom. I have three ferals from the same litter that came inside at 4 months of age late last winter and the Monday after Thanksgiving, the male let me pet him for the first time! What a sense of joy and satisfaction that was! :o) It's so good to have them inside and to see them watching the snow fall from the other side of the glass this year instead of shivering and freezing out in the cold. Whoever said that feral cats can't be domesticated if you don't catch them by the time they are 12 weeks old couldn't have been more wrong! :o) I'm glad to read that you and others are having success with your ferals as well. :o)

I enjoyed reading your latest post Kady, and the comments that have so far been submitted. All you ladies will get crowns in heaven for all the kindness and care you have shown to these once poor unwanted lives. Thank God for people like you. I have only rescued 2 cats that were dumped, I took them to my vet to get checked out, one was too sick and had to be put down the other one I gave to friends, a family who had recently lost their cat to a snake bite. He became a most loved and treasured family member, he finally had the life that he deserved to have. I wish you and all your precious furry little mates and safe, warm and loving Christmas.....Merilyn (Australia)
