HAPPY NEW YEAR ! ! !

I hope everybody started out the New Year in a good way. Today is a re-grouping day for me. I've been straightening the house and finding homes for new items received at Christmas. I changed bed linens and re-arranged gift drawers in which I store items I plan to use as gifts when the occasions arise.
It's time to take down last year's calendar and put up a new one. If you haven't found a 2009 calendar yet, you don't have to wait until February or March when calendars are discounted. I found a great Lang (Susan Winget) calender at Half-Price Books. The store nearest me carries other name brand calendars as well as Lang and many of them retail for $15.00 in other stores. I paid $7.98. You can click on the pictures to see enlarged views of the calendars. I just love Lang and Susan Winget.
Here's something I found when I opened email this morning. I LOVE what it says since I'm such a night owl myself. Staying up late is a habit I've never been able to completely break. Maybe I don't need to? (The truth is, I really like being a night owl.)
THREE SMART THINGS ABOUT SLEEPING LATE
Author: Daniel Dumas - from Wired Magazine 17:01
1) You may need more sleep than you think. Research by Henry Ford Hospital Sleep Disorders Center found that people who slept eight hours and then claimed they were "well rested" actually performed better and were more alert if they slept another two hours. That figures. Until the invention of the lightbulb, the average person slumbered 10 hours a night.
2) Night owls are more creative. Artists, writers, and coders typically fire on all cylinders by crashing near dawn and awakening at the crack of noon. In one study, "evening people" almost universally slam-dunked a standardized creativity test. Their early-bird brethren struggled for passing scores.
3) Rising early is stressful. The stress hormone cortisol peaks in your blood around 7 am. If you get up then, you may experience tension. Grab some extra Zs! You'll wake up feeling less like Bert, more like Ernie.
It's ok to get more sleep in the new year!

10 hours of sleep sounds good to me! Love your calendar - I need to pick up a couple.

Shelley - I like the idea of not feeling guilty when we sleep in. I slept in this morning and it felt good. I've always loved Lang calendars but they've become so expensive. I was thrilled to find them at the Half Price Books store. Happy New Year!

Loved your stats about night owls. I always feel that people think I'm weird when I sleep in. I could stay up all night and sew! Read my blog about my version of Bingo, called Flake. Can't remember the date of the post, but just scroll down till you see a snowman with "flake" at the top. Happy New Year.

Hi Anne - That's why I shared those stats. I'm such a night owl - began when I was doing lots of shows and late at night was about the only time I could get some peace and quiet. Staying up late became a habit and I still like being up when everybody else (and all the pets) are asleep! Thanks for posting - I'll be peeking at your blog in a minute.....Kady
