PUMPKINS IN AUGUST?

Spouse brought our big pumpkin inside tonight. He said he was afraid something would happen to it if he didn't. I was hoping to let it grow as long as it would. Who knows how big it might have become? It's nice and round, a pretty color of orange, and has a nice thick stem, so perhaps it was ready afterall. During its growing process, I gently turned it every couple of weeks and that seemed to allow it to grow evenly with no flat spots. The coloring is uniform too. I'm still shocked about having this volunteer pumpkin growing in my yard, but as much as I like it, I think it's awfully early to have pumpkins. By fall, it will probably be gone. If so, I'll set it outside and maybe I'll have some volunteers next year too.
