DASHING TOWARD THE HOLIDAYS

I like that word, "dashing". To me it means racing toward a goal at full speed. I often think of it in terms of "Jingle Bells" - as in "Dashing through the snow, in a one-horse open sleigh...", but it can be used in other ways too. We're dashing about trying to get everything done for the holidays. We shop for gifts, cook traditional favorites, decorate our homes, bake cookies, and the like. Variations of the word can also be used in a negative way, as in, "all our hopes were dashed".
Our hopes of moving into the house, on which we'd signed a contract, have been dashed and we're trying to absorb all that has happened so we can move forward. The seller and his lender are feuding and why that has to impact us, I don't completely understand. We were being assured by the owner that he definitely wanted to sell us the house, and in fact, was very anxious to sell it before winter. In the end, he, his lender, and his lawyer were not acting in good faith. In a nutshell, we grew weary of their games and their lack of compassion for how all of these delays were affecting us. It's our contention that if the owner had truly wanted to sell so badly, he would have found a way to do that. He had signed the contract. He remains in breach of that agreement, so we still have some legal options.
We're very disappointed that we won't be able to host any family gatherings with our daughter and her family during the holidays. She and our grandson are allergic to cats and it was our hope to have the cats relocated to the big pole barn on the property we were trying to purchase, thus making the house cat-free for our daughter's and grandson's comfort. I don't suppose the seller or his lender would care about how important that was to us. Unless something changes drastically, we'll stay here at least until Spring.
So...we're now dashing to unpack our belongings and begin decorating for the holidays. I'll pull out the curtains I'd stored, along with the dishes, linens, books, CDs, kitchen supplies, quilts, and other things we have in boxes stacked in the garage. All in all, we are still very fortunate - a bit worse for the wear maybe - but blessed beyond belief. We didn't put this house up for sale so we still have a home in which to stay until we do find the house we need. We have friends and relatives who have been extremely supportive throughout this ordeal. Our daughter has invited us to her home for Thanksgiving and Christmas, and our kitties are fine where they are. I wanted the barn for them, along with an outdoor enclosure, but maybe those things will be in their future. Time will tell.

Oh Kady, I absolutely hate that about the house. Darn, I was so hoping things would work out for you. On the bright side I guess you'll be giving thanks tomorrow for the fact that you haven't sold the house you're in. Everything happens for a reason even if we can't tell what that is for some time. Big hugs to you and have a Happy Thanksgiving!
