DECEMBER ORNAMENTS

Today I completed a goal I'd set for myself back in January. It wasn't exactly a resolution. I'm not good at keeping those. This was just something I'd wanted to do for a long time but hadn't attempted. I made one dozen Christmas ornaments every month this year. Since no craft shows materialized for me this season, I decided to use many of the ornaments to decorate my own tree. I'm happy to have finished these because while I'm very good at making lists and setting goals, my "follow-through" often leaves a lot to be desired.
There have been so many distractions this year that I wondered if I was going to be able to finish making all the ornaments. Among other things, there were cats and kittens to humanely trap and rescue, the usual household responsibilities, a few health challenges, and the unsuccessful attempt to purchase a home and all the emotional ups and downs of that process.
I had often wished to decorate a Christmas tree using all my own handmade ornaments, but I never came close to accomplishing such a thing. I confess it took longer for me to choose which ornaments to sew for December than it did to actually make them. I finally settled on candy canes because I thought they would be quick and easy. They may look very simple, but they're a bit of a challenge to sew, turn, and stuff. I found the fabric when I was in Waynesville a few weeks ago. I already had some red and white striped fabric, but this print caught my eye and I thought it had an old-general-store-candy-counter-look, if that makes any sense. I purchased exactly half a yard and used all but some tiny snippets of it. What a challenge it was to work one dozen ornaments into half a yard of fabric, but they're done and I'm a happy Christmas camper.

Love the candy canes and the fabric that you used! I made 24 candy canes for my holiday show...so I know what you mean about them being a bit of a challenge. I usually go to the fabric store in Waynesville twice a year and I didn't get there at all this year...love that store!!
