IT'S A CAT'S WORLD

BLU-PURR CODY
HOLLY
BIGGER TIGGER (BIG TIG)
ROXY (ROXANNE)

Once I finally put all the Christmas decorations away, I thought I'd be able to catch up on some sewing and reading, but so far that hasn't happened. Today I needed to finish some laundry, pay bills, re-arrange furniture in the livingroom, vacuum, dust, file music for my contemporary chorus, and plan supper - along with the usual cat care. I didn't get half of those tasks accomplished. It was the cat care that was my undoing.
I went downstairs to feed and care for my furry ones and immediately saw some strange things. One of the larger cat beds was turned on its top and sitting in the middle of the room. I had no idea why, but when I turned it upright, the puzzle was solved. One of the furry faces had upchucked and tried to cover it with the cat bed. I thought that was odd, but cleaned it up, used disinfectant, and moved on to the other tasks at hand.
As I started into the utility room, I was met with another strange sight. One of the rugs I use in the cat area had been scrunched and dragged halfway across the floor. Instead of being wary of what might be under that rug, I blissfully (or was it ignorantly?) decided the cats must have been playing and hiding toys under it. I pushed the rug aside with my foot and promptly stepped right into a huge pile of undigested cat food. I guess I should just say what it was - BARF! That made two messes I had to clean up before I even started the feeding or scooping of litter boxes.
So, I pulled out more paper towels and more disinfectant and finished that job. I went into another area of the downstairs and found someone had flipped something out of his litter box. I'll just name the culprit. It was Bigger Tigger. I'm sure of it because he's the one who had a smirk on his face when he saw me cleaning up the third mess of the morning. Then he stretched his big paws up on my leg and wanted to be held. As much as I didn't think he deserved to be pampered at that moment, I picked him up and held him anyway. What else could I do? I don't think he did the deed on purpose. I gave him the benefit of the doubt and decided he'd just been a bit too vigorous in trying to cover up his litter box deposits.
After every kitty was fed and all the water bowls had been refilled, I began the fun job of scooping out litter boxes. I don't really mind doing it. I never have. I want the cats to have clean places to go so I've never complained about doing that task. Today was a bit different though. I'd already cleaned up three messes and little did I know a fourth was waiting for me. As I leaned down to work on the first box, Cody jumped on my back, but that's his usual routine. He lies on my back and looks over my shoulder as if to supervise the procedures. I noticed one of the cats had "overshot" the litter box (again) and there was a bit of a wet mess to clean up after him. I knew who that culprit was too - Blu-purr (aka Blooper - long story about his name). He stands inside the box to go, so I know he's trying to be a good kitty, but he's tall and moves around as he goes. I don't know why he does that. He just does. So sometimes he "misses" and I have to clean up after him. He also wanted to be held so I obliged. I wanted to think he loved being in my arms, but actually, he just felt sorry for me.
Every kitty seemed needy today, but that's ok. I love holding them - those who will allow me to, that is. Maybe they sensed I wasn't the happiest camper in the park this morning. The truth is, I can't be upset with them. I simply clean whatever messes they make and consider it part of my life with cats. They don't try to make my life complicated. After all, I'm the one who decided they needed to live here. If anybody complicated my life, it was ME. I love being with all my cats. To me it's like having a little piece of Heaven here on earth - messes and all.

Yep! that's the way it goes in cat world, but it's worth it at the end of the day. All your cats look very content with their lives!
