GROOMING TIME FOR RUSTY

Brothers Rusty and Elliot have very long beautiful fur, but Rusty's fur mats easily and Elliot's doesn't. When Rusty came back to me, he had a few small areas of matted fur even though (I'd been told) he had been brushed every day. I don't doubt for a second he had been cared for properly, and he was just as loving when he returned "home" as when he'd been adopted. So the matted areas may simply not have been noticed by his family. He IS a very hairy kitty. At any rate, I took him to a groomer a few weeks ago after allowing him time to adjust to being back home. I hadn't even returned home before the groomer called and said Rusty was not cooperating. She said he jumped off her table twice, hissed and growled, and wiggled free from the collar she had put on him. Her advice was to have him sedated in order to be groomed and I was having none of that. I knew Rusty must have been frightened by something and sure enough, when I picked him up, I learned the groomer had kept barking dogs in the same room with my boy. Before leaving him, I had told her he was very afraid of barking dogs. She didn't listen. Why would she think she knew my animal better than I did? The best part was when she informed me she wasn't going to charge anything for that visit. I should think not! Rusty was so happy to get out of there and I was relieved to have him back with me. I've been grooming him myself, which I should have done in the first place, and he's doing just fine. I don't try to restrain him and I give him as many breaks as he needs. He hasn't once growled or hissed. I think he knows I'm attempting to help him. We have some work left to do, but we'll soon have him mat-free again. Is he a sweet boy or what?

Oh he's a handsome sweety, he is:) Momma knows best. Those vet techs are only human and don't know everything. You did good mom. If I was closer, I'd love to have Rusty and Elliot:)

Rusty sure is a 'looker'!!!! and I bet he just knows it too!!!LOL!
It must have been very frightening for him, animals are not vindictive creatures, they act purely from instincts, so glad you have taken over his grooming, now it can be a dignified affair!!!! Miss Mini even lets me trim her nails without the slightest bit of annoyance! But my two little dogs.....well that's a completely different story, they have it all over me and whine and whinge with just a glance of the nail trimmers, guess they know me too well huh! So I do get the vet to do this job!

Rusty is handsome. We have a really long haired cat and this summer we decided to have her groomed. She is so much happier and eats better. I think it is the fact that she is not swallowing all that fur when she grooms. I have a before and after photo on my blog primsandannies.blogspot.com

Hi Kady, thanks for visiting...Ginger was sedated but the grooming facility is part of our vet...same building. I agree with you it has to be under a vet's supervision. After seeing the difference in her, I think this will became an annual summertime event.
Have a great weekend
