RUNNING ON EMPTY

HOUSE #1 ON THE TOUR LAST NIGHT VIEW FROM THE DECK OF HOUSE #1
BACKYARD VIEW FROM HOUSE #1
HOUSE #2 ON LAST NIGHT'S SEARCH
BARN ON LAND OF HOUSE #2 HOUSE #3 ON SWEET POTATO RIDGE VIEW FROM BACKYARD OF HOUSE #3

The search for a different house is most frustrating. I can't say that Spouse and I disagree, but it does seem we have different priorities. I'm a detail person, and he looks at the big picture. So while he's checking furnace, air conditioning, and plumbing in a house, I'm looking out the kitchen window to make sure there's a scenic view and checking out the kitchen for ample counter space and cupboards. We both want a medium size ranch with a barn on a little bit of land. Why should that be so hard to find? While it's true we're trying to stay withing our agreed upon budget, I don't understand why we're not finding a place that has the things we want and need. Our realtor showed us three homes last night and we're going out again this evening. Last night's homes were ok, and each one had its good points, but none evoked a, "this is the one", feeling in either of us. The first house was a "no" for me as soon as I walked in the door. For one thing, the master bedroom was directly across from the front door. How odd was that? The second house was sweet but entirely too small. The huge red barn on the property was impressive though. Two houses might have easily fit inside it, but it had a dirt floor and with all these cats, that would not be prudent. There was nothing the least bit special about the last house we saw, except for the land on which it sat. There were five beautiful acres of farm fields and woods. Had we felt the house met our needs, that might have been the one for us. I've spent hours looking online for possibilities, but I've not found the right combination of home, barn, and location. Maybe I'm looking for something that doesn't exist. I'm sure I'll know the right house when I see it so I'll keep trying.

Thanks Merilyn, Linda, and Sandi. All of you are right and make some very good points. Hubby and I haven't done this for over 32 years so we're very rusty at home searching. We have a great realtor though and she's helping us narrow our search. It's true that I talk about finding forever homes for cats, so I do need to think about this being my forever home - when I find it. That's why I'm not wanting to settle for something less than I really like. Thanks for all the support gals. I always welcome your input and thoughts.

Kady, keep your chin up. We are searching for the perfect acreage at this time too. And we've been at it awhile. I'm quite picky myself about what I want. You never know, one could just fall in your lap :) Good luck with your search!!

Thanks for the encouraging words Erin. I keep thinking I'm not being picky, but maybe I really am. We intend to be in our next house for a long time so both of us want something we love, not just something we can endure. We do need a little bit of land (an acrea maybe) so we can either use a barn already in place or build one that will safely and cleanly house the cats. Spouse has drawn some plans which would be great. If only we can find the house and land we both love. Good luck on YOUR search too.
