ANOTHER FINE MESS...

LET THERE BE LIGHT - THE FORMER OWNER LEFT THESE FOR US

IN THE BEGINNING IT DIDN'T SEEM TOO DIFFICULT

BUT THERE WERE THREE LAYERS OF LINOLEUM PROGRESS WITH THE SCRAPING MACHINE ORIGINAL WOOD FLOOR IN SEWING ROOM ORIGINAL WOOD FLOOR IN BLUE ROOM

CARPET-LESS MASTER BEDROOM FLOOR - BEAUTIFUL!

DININGROOM LIGHT FIXTURE - SO PRETTY

SOMEBODY HAS TO CLEAN UP THIS MESS

The last two days have been very busy, and I'm sure things will be busier before we're finished. The positive part is that we're making progress on the new old house. The oldest carpeting has been removed, along with old linoleum. There were three layers of glued linoleum on the kitchen floor. Glenn removed the old indoor-outdoor kitchen carpet and began the linoleum removal process but we soon realized the job was more than we could handle so we called in a trusted handyman (thank you for the recommendation SUE) and he suggested renting a machine to do the work. What a stinky mess that was, and still is. After doing as much as they could in the kitchen, Glenn and the handyman tore out the old carpet from the upstairs bedrooms, exposing the wood under it. Apparently, it's original to the house which was built in 1919. With a little buffing and care, the floors should be just fine. I love the feeling of being in those rooms with the old wood floors and I can't wait to have my sewing supplies up there. I learned a few things today. I now know how to efficiently remove staples from underneath carpet padding and tear sticky carpet tacking from beneath baseboards. It was a long two days but we're getting closer to moving our furniture to the new old house. The phrase, "Let's take out the old carpeting", sounded so easy.

Those timber floors look like they will come up beautifully!! I have to say I do prefer them too!! Being covered for so long they should look like new!!! You are definitely beginning to put your own mark on the new old house!!!!

All that hard work will be a distant memory when you are enjoying those beautiful wood floors! They are sooooo worth it! And a sewing room with a wood floor is pure heaven!

And whatever you do, DON'T throw away those light bulbs! With the new lighting regulations starting to come into effect in January, it will become increasingly difficult to buy them!

The floors look great. And you'll appreciate them even more after all this work. We restored our hickory floors and I feel happy every time I look at them. We had to do a few repairs and supplemented with some replacement flooring but it all looks great now. Good luck with yours.
