BUTTERFLY HITCHING A RIDE ON MY SHIRT
IT SEEMED TO PREFER LANDING ON THE ASPHALT
I WAS SURPRISED THE BUTTERFLY WASN'T AFRAID OF ME
ATTEMPT TO RELEASE IT IN A SAFER PLACE - SUCCESS AT LAST!

ATTEMPT TO RELEASE IT IN A SAFER PLACE - SUCCESS AT LAST!
I had a very unique experience this morning. After a routine dental appointment (look ma, no cavities!) I stopped at Walmart to pick up a few things for the farm. When I exited the store I noticed a huge butterfly sitting in the middle of the parking lot. I didn't want it to be hit by a car so I tried to coax it to move to another spot. The butterfly seemed to want to be where it was, in the direct line of traffic. Three times I gently picked it up and moved it, and three times it flew back to the middle of the parking lot. I wasn't going to stand by and watch it be pulverized by a car so I let it climb onto my finger and then onto my shirt. The butterfly clung to me as I entered my car and drove around to the back of the shopping complex, where I found a nice grassy spot I thought would be a safer place for it to be. I got out of the car, with the butterfly still clinging to me, and released it. Once again, it flew a short distance, then landed on the asphalt. I made one last attempt to release the butterfly into the small meadow area and was finally successful. I'm not sure what the butterfly was thinking or even if it it was capable of thought, but it surely was persistent and seemed to know what it wanted. As I drove away, I wasn't at all sure I'd saved the winged creature, but at least it had a better chance in the meadow than in the middle of a parking lot. So now am I a butterfly whisperer?
