IN THE HOME STRETCH

I was determined to get my table runner finished today, but there were so many interruptions. The air conditioner repair man was coming, Spouse was trying to install a new ice maker in the fridge. Cats needed to be corraled so they wouldn't be underfoot while the repair man was here. They needed to be fed, scooped, and given clean water before he came. The dog needed to be put into her house so she wouldn't scare the repair man to pieces. If that wasn't enough, laundry was calling to me. It makes me tired just to think of it.
There were also meals to make and a kitchen to clean and I learned I'll be having company in the morning, a short time after I transport a cat to the vet. Just as I was about to wind down a bit today, I received a phone call telling me about a friend in need. I called the friend and was on the phone most of the afternoon and then again this evening. Some things are much more important than sewing.
Perhaps I should have given up all thoughts of sewing today, but I really wanted to get my project finished. Tonight I cut the final pieces of fabric for the table runner backing, seamed them together, pinned front to back, then sewed the pieces, turned the finished product, pressed it, and did some topstitching. Things worked together well and I was really glad I didn't have to tear out any stitches. I had just enough fabric, just enough thread, and just enough patience to finish my table runner. I'll add some embellishments later this week.
