THE TRAPPINGS OF HALLOWEEN

HAPPY HALLOWEEN! It wasn't very spooky around here tonight. The little goblins came and went and all was sane and orderly. That's not how Halloween is supposed to be. I miss the days of excitement that were the norm when Daughter was little - what to wear, who to ask to come along, and which homes to visit. I used to bake a pumpkin cake and provide little white powered sugar donuts and apple cider as treats to share with whomever might be joining us after the big event. It was always fun. Now Daughter is experiencing the fun with her offspring. Actually, Grandson is past Trick or Treating now and only Granddaughter is fulfilling the tradition, but already Daughter has had years of fun with her little ones.
It's getting colder outside and I've been very worried about three small kittens that were born under a neighbor's shed this summer. They've begun to run around the neighborhood and their mama has disappeared. I felt it was time to do something toward getting them inside but they'd been too scared to allow me to touch them. Tonight I pulled out the humane trap and caught two of them. The third one is still at large, but the trap is set and he's out there all alone. I won't sleep well if I'm not able to catch him and reunite him with his sisters.
Did I need more kittens? Did I want more kittens? NO on both counts, but I can't let them starve or freeze. I was actually trying to wait until Kelly's kittens were adopted before bringing them inside. Today I decided I could wait no longer. I'll go out and check the trap again in a few minutes and see if I've caught the last little furry baby. The kittens are a little bit smaller than Kelly's kittens. I was able to touch the two females and though they're frightened, I think I have a chance at taming them. Here we go again with kitten adoptions. I'll just have to take one day at a time.
The above video is very short but I was able to catch Bailey and Ziggy playing. They're getting so big and are so active it's hard to catch them in a photo or video these days. We'll try again on Sunday to see if we can find them forever homes. Wish us luck!
