Letterboxing is like treasure hunting except after you find a treasure and record the date you found it, you put it back exactly where you'd found it so someone else can discover it. You also leave your mark in a small notebook provided by the one who hid the treasure. Most people use rubber stamping as a way to let the one who hid the treasure know it was found. Granddaughter, Spouse, and I went letterboxing this afternoon. Most of the treasure boxes we found were in the Woodland Cemetery in Dayton, Ohio. It's reported to be one of the largest cemeteries in Ohio. Some very famous people are buried there, including the Wright Brothers, Paul Lawrence Dunbar, Erma Bombeck, and many founding fathers, inventors, and business icons of Dayton and the surrounding area.

Cemeteries are interesting places to visit. Woodland has a Civil War section where each grave is decorated with an American flag. Some flags had been blown over or broken and we re-positioned those we could. Rather than being an eerie experience, visiting Woodland Cemetery was an interesting history lesson. Granddaughter said she'd like to take photos of the Wright Brothers' gravesites to school to share with classmates. Apparently her class recently talked about the contributions the brothers made to aviation.
