RE-PURPOSING ON PURPOSE

Maybe I've been watching too many room make-over shows or something but I've been going around my house searching for ways to use things I already have, rather than buying something new. Since we're very likely headed for a move in the not-too-distant future, I'm not going to buy any more storage units or shelves unless I need them for a new dwelling.
For some reason I seem to be getting back into the yarn business. Years ago when I was doing more craft shows, I put away my crochet hook and gave away all my yarn in order to make room and time for fabric creations. Now I'm turning to yarn again and though I've only bought what I thought I'd use for one project at a time, it seems to have multiplied in the closet. I had stuffed it into tote bags and jammed it into baskets but then I didn't see it, and for me, if something is out of sight, it's often out-of-mind as well.
What to do? I remembered having a shoe storage unit sitting in the bottom of the master bedroom closet and when I checked, it only had a couple pairs of shoes in it. So I took it out, dusted it off, and decided it would work for storing my yarn. As is often the case, I had to move some things around before finding a good spot for my re-purposed storage unit. It didn't hold all my yarn but the skeins that didn't fit went into a big Longaberger market basket which I placed on the top of a bookshelf. I like how that worked out and don't know why I didn't think of it before now.
