WEEKEND UPDATE

THIS IS HOW MY CABINETS HAVE LOOKED FOR 30+ YEARS. THIS IS THE FIRST STEP IN THE KITCHEN UPDATE.

We're not any closer to moving but we are working on this house so maybe we'll be more ready when the time does come. Spouse and I have lived here for over 30 years and I've loved the dark wood kitchen cabinets, but many of the houses we've toured and most of the HGTV home shows now feature a lighter look. We've considered buying new cabinets, re-staining the ones we have, or just painting them. I've never been a fan of painting over stained wood, but we decided we'd give that a try and see how it worked.

Over the weekend, Spouse began the kitchen project. He warned it would be a messy job and I promised to not complain about the dust and paint in my kitchen. We chose a pretty neutral color called "Tea Biscuit" and he began by sanding and painting a set of doors. We're very happy with the outcome so far. Maybe this won't be as daunting a task as we'd feared. I think the new update is going to make the kitchen a brighter place. I may not want to move!

Kady, I really like that color. Replacing cabinets is sooo expensive. Painting is work, but usually it's an amazing outcome. We are painting cabinets in our project house, let me know how long it takes. Have a great day

I like those- a lot! It will definitely be brighter. We have a tiny little galley-style kitchen. You know, room for one person at a time. I had them cut out the wall and upper cabinets on the living room side and just have lower cabinets. Now it is a bar with drawers. It just feels so much bigger and brighter. Sometimes, the best things are the cheapest or easiest done! You will love the changes!

I don't generally like to cover beautiful timber with paint, but the result in this case looks just wonderful! Sometimes kitchens can look a little dark with stained timber fixtures especially if they are small, and having a brighter look certainly seems to open up the room quite a bit!!! I think it will work well!!! I love the paint colour!!! Good luck with the kitchen make-over!
