THE COUNTDOWN BEGINS . . . AGAIN

Well, I've managed to fritter away a whole week since my home show. Honestly, I sometimes don't know how time gets away from me. This week I'd planned to put up Christmas trees and start decorating here my gathering room in preparation for the November show.  I hesitated to do that because I thought more people were coming to shop this week. They hadn't exactly promised to come, but seemed very interested and asked if they might bring some friends along. I wanted things to look as nice as they had last Saturday, so I didn't take anything down. I waited all week, but no one came. When will I ever learn to do what is right for me and not worry so much about what others might think or do? I didn't sew a single thing this week because I didn't want to get all my fabrics and notions out and make a big mess if I had someone coming to the house. I know I should go ahead and do whatever I want or need to do, but it's often easier said than done.

The week wasn't completely a lost cause though. I did catch up on loads and loads of laundry and I browsed many of my crafting idea books and patterns. In fact, they're still stacked on my coffee table in the family room. I've made lists of things I hope to accomplish before the next home show and I already have some projects ready, except for the pricing. My daughter has again volunteered to make treats for a baked goods table and I have fliers printed and ready to be delivered in a couple weeks.  I guess that's a good start. I'm just not as far along as I'd hoped to be at this point.

I have a lot of work ahead of me in the next few weeks so I best be getting to it. The upstairs sewing room needs to be straightened before I make an even bigger mess, and I need to take inventory of fabric and supplies before I jump in and begin again. Ok, I'm taking a deep breath here . . . I vow to work on that room tomorrow, take inventory, and complete at least 5 things. I'm actually anxious to get some holiday items sewn and I'll post some photos as I get things done. Wish me luck!

(Apparently, I still cannot upload photos to the text of this blog post so I'll add something to the sidebar.)

A pity you held out for those who said they would return, and yes! a lesson learned, always follow your own schedule especially if time is of the essence, just press on, stragglers can always be accommodated if they show up.....all the best for getting your next Home Show underway.....

What a pity indeed. Don't know what they missed. I wanted to tell you your house is simply beautiful. Wow! To own a house built back in the day. That would be my dream

Merilyn, it surely was another lesson learned. I know my friends were well intentioned, but life sometimes gets in the way of the plans we make. It happens to all of us at one time or another. So, yes, I just had to re-group and get moving in the direction of my next show. I won't make that mistake again. I'll make sure my visitors have my card with my phone number on it and they can call if they want to stop by and browse. I'm new to this so I imagine there will be more lessons along the way. LOL

Debra, thank you. We love living here and feel very blessed to be able to do so. We actually were trying to purchase a much smaller house a few miles from here, but the seller pulled the sale right out from under us. We had already signed the papers and had our vehicles piled full of household things ready to go to the small brick ranch we'd "bought". We were devastated since we'd waited for so long and looked at so many places. We were determined to downsize. Well, that's a joke now, since this house is twice as big (for $10,000 less than we were going to pay on the smaller one) and it's in the country, which makes me a happy camper. The lady who sold us the house lived here for 62 years and needed to go to an assisted living facility. She gave us a very good price on the house and it sits on one acre. Her daughters have both come back and gone through their former home to see what all we've done and they were both very generous with their comments. They totally approved of all the things we've done so far, which I know we don't have to get their approval, but it's nice to know they can see we're taking good care of this old house and loving it. It was built in 1919, which is the year my father-in-law was born, and three years before my dad was born. That seems odd, but I love houses with history. We've made good friends with our farm neighbors and we go back and forth to each others' places, taking food, cookies, sharing dinners, etc. It's the best time of our lives I think, even though we're retirement age and not getting any younger. LOL I have a big barn with two rooms built on for my rescued cats and I am so fortunate to have two very rustic upstairs rooms to use for my sewing and my keepsakes - some of my daughter's old dolls, my old toys, and even some of the toys the grandkids outgrew. My fabric stashes are quickly taking up any extra room up there though. I've been unloading totes from the barn that we stored in there when we first moved in and good grief, I honestly didn't know I had so much fabric. Making things for home shows should help reduce my stashes. Part of the problem is, I never let go of very much. I always think I'll use it in the future. Hubby said we don't need this big of a house, and I said, oh but I love it, since I didn't have to get rid of more things before we moved. LOL At some point, I will let more things go, but right now, I'm having such a good time with my vintage collections and fabric and notions. My family gathers here for holidays now and that's something I'd always wished for. Life is good.
